a new year! (some family time recap...)

Last week we drove up on New Years Day to spend some time with our family in Santa Maria.  It was a really great trip filled with connection and family time.  We were very spoiled!
Here are some highlights:
Time at a new favorite park, Rice Ranch:
Going to see the monarch butterflies at Pismo beach:
The butterfly grove has a trail straight to the beach.
The weather was perfect!
Then we met up with some family friends at their beach house in Cayucos.
I'm not going to lie, I was nervous up on that Rock, having Ryder with me.  I was SO thankful that Eric was there too...
And we ended the day by going to our brother and sister-in-law's house and meeting our new niece, Kailtyn Diane!
She is so precious and we love her so much!
And Eden got her first haircut!
Megan is the family haircut queen and she did Ryder's first haircut and so I had to keep the tradition!
We can all take a sigh of relief that the mullet is gone♥.
On friday night, Kit and I went to downtown San Luis Obispo to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary.  The kids had the BEST time with their grandparents!
Then we headed to the Madonna Inn for dessert and cappuccinos.  They had live music playing, swing music, and we watched people dance.  We had cappuccinos every day while we were on our honeymoon in Italy so I can't think of a more appropriate anniversary drink...
It was a wonderful evening, full of lots of great connection time and conversations that were completely UNINTERRUPTED...
We are excited for what 2014 holds.  Some big things are coming...

a new year...

Yesterday we went on a hike on a local trail...
 and Ryder was incredibly prepared...
for a hunt.
We saw two coyotes, lots of squirrels, and lots of rabbits.
It's so good to be outside!
We tuckered this little one out!
(Sweet dreaming baby...)
We talked about the New Year and all that it holds.
I think it's going to be a good one!
Kit is off the whole week and tomorrow we are heading up to spend some time with our family in Santa Maria.  Have a wonderful day and from our family to yours, have a very Happy New Year!

christmas recap

We are still spinning from all of the christmas festivities.  We LOVE when we get to be with our families!
Here is a little recap of our time:
Christmas Eve we let the kiddos open a present: a baseball glove.  The rest of the morning was spent outside playing baseball...
Christmas Eve Service at our church:
In their Sunday best:
She loved her shoes:
Christmas morning, we got up and opened presents and had an impromptu pancake morning with our neighbors, the Johnsons.
It was so fun to watch the kiddos open their presents.  Ryder got a nerf gun set and Eden got her first baby doll.  Kit received some awesome camping stuff and Kit gave me some beautiful canvased photographs of the kids.
Then we headed out to Redlands where we had some time of great conversations, laughter and AMAZING food.  I just love that we get to do life with our family!
A scavenger hunt to find presents:
The girls:
A new game:
after a tasty breakfast we went to a park:
And we stayed at the swings the entire time with this little munch:
Speaking of this little munch, she and her cousin got matching outfits for Christmas:
Yep, twins...
It was a wonderful Christmas time.  We will be heading up to visit our family in Santa Maria after New Years Eve!  The festivities and celebrations will continue!

creating: yarn wrapped stars

I finally finished my last christmas project that I had wanted to tackle this year for our house.  Specifically for our tree: a star tree topper.
It looks a little bit like a star fish...
I just loved how it finished off the tree!
Yesterday, while it was pouring rain, we made hot chocolate to have while we colored our advent ornaments and read the christmas story...
We are so excited to celebrate the birthday of Jesus!
