Back to School Dinner 2021

 This last Friday, we had out tradition of choosing a verse for the new school year, eating an amazing meal, and praying over our kids as they look to all that the new year holds.  We look forward to it EVERY year!

Spaghetti and homemade meatballs, Caprese salad with tomatoes and basil from our garden, and our home grown figs with feta, honey, and crisped prosciutto on top was what was on the menu for the evening.

We chose the verses from Psalms 57:9-11.  It reads:
"I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
10
For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth."

Another translation from "the Message" reads:
"I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth."
We talked about how over the last seven years that we have had a child in school, we have seen God's love and experienced it first hand. His faithfulness has been on display each year as we have seen how He has gone before us into each new school year.
As Ryder starts middle school this Thursday,  we can look back and remember and stand in confidence of His love and faithfulness in our lives. Kit and I can acknowledge that God loves our kids EVEN MORE than we do our can imagine.  He has also NEVER not been faithful.  Not once.
We also want to be a family that puts His love on display to those around us.  That we can praise Him with our actions and that those that come into contact with us would experience Jesus.
We prayed over each other.  WE had words of blessing for each other.  Ryder spoke words of joy and happiness over Eden's year and her friendships.  Eden prayed bravery and boldness as Ryder steps into his new school.  They just received those words...
Praying over our year, teachers and faculty and friendships and giving it all to Jesus reminds us that He is God, we are not, and that He is with us.  We are his children.
How thankful I am that we get this opportunity to recenter our lives on Jesus.  That recalibration is one that makes all the difference as we step into each new season.

I love that we get to do it together...
So, to our 4th and 6th grader:
You are going to have an amazing year, and we are cheering you on all the way.  We will always be in your corner!  God has already gone before you.  We are excited to see all that unfolds this year!
Blessings on you both...
