Oh my goodness. This has been a long project in the making and I have loved watching what has evolved in this space.

We took off the brass cover and sprayed the inside a special heat resistant black:
Then Kit decided that he wanted to try his hand at wood working.
He made a plan:
Went to a special wood store called Austin Hardwoods and Hardware to finalize his plans and came up with this:
We are planning to paint the mantel and have a plan involving stack stone and slate for the fireplace surround and hearth. We are so excited to watch it all come together!
