Yesterday we had our traditional back to school dinner. We pick a verse/theme for the year, and then pray for the year ahead. This year we chose the verse John 1:5, "The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." This is the first time that we are starting off the year with both of our kids having accepted Jesus into their hearts, so talking about how the Light of the World gives them His Spirit and that they get to be light in a world where darkness can be so present and yet know that the Light will overcome. Always. We gave them glow in the dark sticks to keep in their backpacks as reminders of the Light that they get to share with those around them. Our simple prayer for our kids is that they would LET THEIR LIGHT SHINE!

Each year as we prepare for this dinner, it is such a powerful experience or us as we prepare to send our kids off to a new school year. I am so grateful for our school and our teachers and I am so excited for all that this year holds for my SECOND and FOURTH grader! Holy Smokes!!!
Today is their first day and we are excited to meet their teachers and get this year started!
