On Tuesday we found out that Ryder got into a school in our area and it's entrance is based on a lottery that is drawn. He has been asking where he would be going and we didn't want to get him excited about something until we knew for sure. Kit and I toured the school back in february and got to meet families and teachers and it just felt like a great fit for our family! When we realized that his name had been drawn and I got to tell him that THIS was HIS school, my little guy completely lit up with excitement and he said, "I get to go HERE?!?" (When you walk up to the school, you can see the students artwork and the kindergarten playground and the HUGE garden and outdoor learning lab. It's an environment that makes you want to be there.)
He was THRILLED!
We celebrated with ice-cream and Costco pizza. Ryder's choice.♥
So we picked up the paper work, got it all turned in, and our little guy is officially enrolled in elementary school. I just can't believe it!
(He had to sign a code of conduct form. He felt so old!)
I mean come on... How sweet is this little signature!
Why we loved the school:
It's an INCREDIBLE school that has special focuses on literacy and math, a HUGE organic garden and outdoor learning lab, special programs for foreign language, art, and science and a program called H.E.R.O.E.S. that focuses on dad involvement, as well as an agreement for parent involvement and volunteering in and out of the classroom. They work with the student's individual learning and have aids to make sure that if one on one time is needed, that child receives it. One of their focuses that really made us excited about the school was a character building support system. They give out more awards in their character building program than for academics and that just spoke to Kit and I. One of their main mission statement components is that learning and the education of students comes from a partnership between the school and home. Kit and I know that we are primary in Ryder's life and we love that the school emphasized that. We are so happy for him and what these next years will bring! The school is from K-5th grade and Eden will automatically go there too so this school will be playing a huge part in our lives for the next 8 years of our kids lives.
